The Attributes of God

The Attributes of God are the character traits of our Almighty Creator, as they are revealed to us in the Scriptures.

The character traits of God are classically distinguished between communicable and incommunicable divine attributes. Communicable are those character traits that are significantly reflected in humans and Incommunicable are those that are solely possessed by God.

There are varying lists from organizations and people, but the following list we are comfortable sharing.

Communicable Attributes of God

Those which are shared with human beings, listed below, as our God shows His through us individually.

• Love: God’s self-giving nature
• Holiness: His absolute purity and separation from sin
• Justice & Righteousness: His perfect morality and consistent fairness
• Mercy & Grace: His compassionate forgiveness and unmerited favor toward humanity
• Wisdom: His flawless ability to apply knowledge
• Truthfulness: He is the source of all truth, and His word is completely reliable
• Faithfulness: His absolute loyalty in keeping His promises
• Patience: His enduring steadfastness toward people
• Goodness: His desire to bestow blessings on His creation

#1 - Pastors and elders are the first wave of exemplifying Christ.

#2 - We should study & imitate strong, faithful brothers and sisters.

#3 - Christian parents are called to teach their children.

#4 - We learn through prayer as we thank God, praise Him and bring all our burdens to Him in faith.

Incommunicable attributes of God

Those which are solely possessed by God.

• Omnipresence: God is fully present everywhere at all times, whereas human beings are limited to a single location
• Omniscience: God possesses complete, effortless and instantaneous knowledge of all things, past, present and future
• Omnipotence: God has supreme and unlimited power and can do anything that aligns with His character
• Eternality: God exists entirely outside of time, without beginning or end
• Immutability: God's nature, essence and character never change or evolve
• Self-Existence (Aseity): God does not depend on anyone or anything else to exist, and He has no needs outside of Himself

Five Integral Points in Our Need to Evangelize

  • The Holy Spirit serves as Christ’s emissary in the worldwide expansion of His kingdom.

  • Sin is not something that people can escape on their own.

  • Christ will return again as Judge.

  • The gospel is a spiritual message, and evangelism is a spiritual endeavor.

  • When we evangelize, we are engaged in spiritual warfare.

Week #3: Biblical Discipleship - Our Commitment to Christ

  • Discipleship isn’t Optional for the True Believer

  • The Christian must desire to be discipled

  • Discipleship is a lifelong process
