Highland Heights Ministry Opportunities
Volunteering is imperative to the impact, sustainability and growth of the local church. This is how we make an impact on our community for the Glory of God. So, the question presents itself like this: How would you like to serve at HHCC?
Below is a list of many opportunities where you can get involved.
Our ministry model is broken up into six areas of focus. The explanation for each is listed below, along with the multiple service opportunities that fall within the focus area.
Once you find one or more areas you are interested in, let us know by filling out the electronic form below. You then will be contacted by the Ministry Team Lead.
We are grateful you have made HHCC your home church. Now, let’s roll up our sleeves and get busy!
Administration
This is an area generally for appointed duties of the staff. However, our church property and building need careful attention. Here are some things that fall under the guidance of those in administration, all in an attempt to keep the building and grounds up to par.
EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM: Our team of first responders and security team members ensures the safety of our flock. As part of a rotation, you either serve during first or second service.
GROUNDS CREW: A team that works hard year-round to keep the building clean and the grounds in good order. These are some of the items that are needed: Nice Weather: Mowing, weeding, planting. Bad Weather: Shoveling snow, spreading Ice-Melt. What is your expertise?
HOUSEKEEPING: Those who help keep the building maintained. This is in addition to our Custodian, to help alleviate the heavy demand. From sanctuary clean-up (changes candles, straightens chairs, picks up trash, etc.), to Window washing (both inside and out).
HANDYMAN HELPERS (Maintenance Volunteers): Whether at the church or a small project at someone’s home, this group is counted on for things like painting, light electrical/plumbing, general repairs and assistance, etc.
NURSERY LEADER / ASSISTANT: This team of volunteers (16 or older) helps in caring for infants through pre-K.
KID’s SUNDAY SCHOOL LEADER: During 2nd Service: Teaching children in grades K-1, 2-3, or 4-6.
TRIBE VOLUNTEERS (HHCC’s Youth Group): Wednesday evenings for 4th-12th grade, assisting the leaders.
Discipleship (Teaching)
Teachers are always in need. This job works directly with Pastor Patrick, the Elders and the Ministry Lead, to ensure that our teachers are following the biblical model of teaching sound doctrine that is pertinent to our fundamental beliefs of the New Testament.
BIBLE STUDY TEACHER: Capable of leading a class at the church, either during the week or on Sundays. These classes directly teach from Scripture and are focused on the study. Must meet with Pastor first to qualify.
HOME STUDY LEADERS: They are good at leading a small group at their home. This can be a great way to be more personal with folks together, sometimes over breaking bread. Must meet with Pastor first to qualify.
Missions
HHCC supports both local and foreign missions. From our missionaries in Africa and Central America to Doorstep, Lunch with Jesus and our Lunch Buddies Program!
LUNCH WITH JESUS: This is an outreach mission that takes place every other Saturday throughout the year. While we made outside the Rescue Mission our home for two years, we are beginning to venture out and go to other neighborhoods. Many positions are available for this, we set up chairs outside of our concession trailer, cook a free meal for anyone who wants to attend, and give them a sermon. It’s a mobile church mission. Great for families to get involved together!
DOORSTEP: Volunteers who assist Doorstep in the food and clothing bank and/or at their annual Christmas Store.
MISSION TEAM LIASON: If Missions coordinating is your passion, we always need and could use volunteers to help communicate with our Mission Teams. Light responsibility.
LUNCH BUDDIES: Through our supported mission, The Bridge of Topeka, these volunteers donate 30 minutes of their time, once per week, to go and visit with their assigned friend at a local elementary school.
Praise & Worship:
Worship is the expression of reverence and adoration for our God! It is expressed in many ways, not just at Sunday morning church service. Here are some ways you can help worship our Savior!
MUSIC MINISTRIES: We are constantly looking for talented people to minister through vocal and instrumental music. The Praise Team prepares the music for Sunday morning and special services.
CHOIR: HHCC is always on the lookout for folks who are willing to sing in the choir! We generally have our choir sing 2 to 3 times per year.
CHOIR DIRECTOR: If you enjoy leading a choir, this position is presently available!
PRAYER WARRIORS: The team that prays for and follows up on every specific prayer request that comes through the registration cards.
DRAMA TEAM: The HHCC Players provide dramatic additions to the worship services and other special events a couple of times per year.
AUDIO/VIDEO TECHNICIANS: A team who set up and monitor the audio equipment, run the sound board, and computer operations for music and services. Also, with our present work in the field of videography, we are always looking for someone with experience.
SPECIAL PROJECTS: Sometimes we just need some help organizing and putting things together in the sanctuary, or in other places. If you are just a very special servant, please consider!
Hospitality
The gathering together of fellow believers for the survival of the church. Hospitality is one area where we do an exceptional job.
EVENT SET-UP TEAM: Muscles needed! You will be added to a short list that we can call on when there is a need for help to set up or tear down for an event.
HOSPITALITY TEAM: We offer a Fellowship Time each Sunday morning from 9:30 – 10:00 (between services). Also, set up and clean up help for 5th Sunday dinners. Jesus is our unseen guest each time His children gather. Service with a smile is preferred!
PREP / CLEAN-UP TEAM: Another important part of fellowship where you share in a rotating assignment role of helping to set up and clean up for weekly and random special events (weddings/funerals/etc.)
CARD MINISTRY: A team to minister to the congregation and community by recognizing birthdays, anniversaries, special events & accomplishments with greeting cards.
HOSPITALITY PROVIDER: A team built with those who are willing to provide a side dish or dessert for a funeral dinner, a special event or our quarterly fellowship dinner.
Evangelism
This is the spreading of the Christian gospel by public preaching or personal witness. Believers are called to do this in our daily lives. But here are some ways you can serve HHCC directly.
RUTHIE: Our special group of ladies who call other ladies (single or married) to check on them. Such a wonderful opportunity to bless others and FH.
CARE MINISTRY: Care ministry is an integral part of our church. Whether it’s directly greeting folks during church or helping to make calls to folks who are sick or homebound, Care Ministry is a very important job as well as a constant need in the church.
SANCTUARY AMBASSADOR: Once people are in the church, it is wonderful to be greeted by another person or two. This is for everyone in the body to do… only some have the gift to be intentional. And if this is you, please become an ambassador!
LOBBY AMBASSADOR: This role warmly greets everyone who is on their way to the worship service with a handshake, a smile and a bulletin. These folks give first impression of friendliness, acceptance, and love to members, attenders, and visitors alike.
PURSUIT AMBASSADOR: This is a role that follows up with first time attenders. If they fill out a card, the ambassador utilizes their contact information to follow-up with a phone call to welcome them back!
HANDS OF MERCY: This team makes the world go round! From providing an occasional gift card for a family in need, or a ride to an appointment. From a side dish or salad for a funeral, to the person who sits with another while they wait for their loved one who is in surgery.
Ride to Church or Appointment / Delivery or Errands
Friend in Waiting Room / Gift Card Provider
Other Ministry Needs
The following are ministry areas that are not yet active. If you are gifted to help facilitate of willing to teach, please prayerfully consider helping us get them off the ground.
HHCC SINGLE’S MINISTRY LEADER: A group of single brothers and sisters in Christ, who come together to worship in Word and fellowship. This is presently an area within our church that is a need.
MARRIAGE CLASS: This is another vision the church has to open up an opportunity to help married couples work through the struggles that seem to plague families today.
CRISIS COORDINATOR: This team helps mothers in crisis situations. While the church has helped many in extreme situations, having an actual facilitator in case of emergency would be a blessing.
OVERCOMERS: This would be a care group for people who are dealing with addiction. Whether alcohol, drug, gambling, pornography, or anything that is an addiction. Not an active group yet. Is this your calling?
NOTE: Is there something you are talented at or called to do, but did not see it on this list? Please feel free to write about it below! And if you feel really passionate, please don’t hesitate to be willing to help get it off the ground if the church leadership agrees!
