Light Bulb

A couple of days ago, my wife, who was driving her car in front of me, let me know I had a headlight out. Interestingly, I couldn’t tell it was out when I was driving in the city, but I could tell it was out when I got out into the county. Even more interesting, the next time I drove it, my computer told me the headlight was out. (I’m now wondering if it tried to let me know that night or not.)

Anyway, I planned to have it replaced. As I was in the shop waiting for it to be done, a young man came up to me and asked if I had noticed it was pulling to the right. Then he started to tell me my rear tires really needed to be replaced. I replied that this was funny because I had replaced all four tires not even a month ago. That was when the other person at the front counter yelled at him that he was talking to the wrong customer.

From my perspective, I was glad it wasn’t me having tire and alignment problems a month after I replaced them. The other customer overheard the brief conversation they had with me earlier (about the tires he actually needed) and explained he had an appointment to replace those rear tires next week because they were still under warranty. He was only here to get his front end aligned because it was pulling to the right, a lot.

I’m not sure I understand the technology, but they explained to the man that their equipment needed more tread on the tires than his had in order to grip and align them. The service person told him another branch of their store had the equipment to grab the rims and align the tires. He left to go to the other store.

“Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in

showing honor. Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord. Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality. Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.” - Romans 12:9-18 ESV

When I considered how the other customer felt, my sympathy went out to him. If I were him, given that it snowed here a few days ago, I would be worried about driving on tires without much tread (in fact, I should have replaced my own tires four months ago, but I wanted to wait for the sale they had scheduled for mid-November).

“Therefore, I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? And which of you by being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? And why are you anxious about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin, yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.” - Matthew 6:25-29

Worry takes your thoughts away from God. So, don’t do that, but do replace your tires when they need replaced.
