News
I’m writing this on a Friday and thought I would share a couple of the riveting news stories I read today.
Dan Aykroyd
Dan Aykroyd was part of the original “Saturday Night Live” cast, or if you’re too young for that reference, he was also a Ghostbuster. The article was focused on some artistic vodka he is associated with, but also included a story about a friend from Israel who came to visit him. This friend asked what it was like to live in a country that wasn’t in a constant state of war with its neighbors. While he didn’t use the word “blessed,” he did admit he took so many things for granted because of where he lived.
“And if you faithfully obey the voice of the Lord your God, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of the Lord your God. Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the field. Blessed shall be the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your cattle, the increase of your herds and the young of your flock. Blessed shall be your basket and your kneading bowl. Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out.” - Deuteronomy 28:1-6 ESV
AppleTV
AppleTV just added 19 “classic” movies to their lineup available as part of their subscription service. These classic movies include “ET,” “The Sixth Sense” and “Titanic.” To me, these movies don’t fall in the “classic” category since they all came out well into my adult years. (I can already hear the “OK, boomer” from anyone under 30 who is reading this.
“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. For by it the people of old received their commendation. By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.” - Hebrews 11:1-3
HuffPost
An article on www.huffpost.com, which was posted two days ago just before a solar eclipse, recommended that people in the United Kingdom (UK) not run their dishwashers and washing machines that day. It seems the UK’s power grid is fed a significant amount from solar energy farms. Public utility officials were worried that due to the time of day and weather, the solar eclipse might reduce the power provided to the grid enough that problems might occur. Appliances like dishwashers and washing machines, which are in common use when people get home from work, might over-tap the power grid, causing brownouts during the eclipse.
“The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” - Proverbs 16:9
I hope you enjoyed a few of the eye-opening news stories I read today. Remember, humor is one of God’s gifts to us.
